Mt. San Antonio College welcomed its newest board member Wednesday night, swearing in recently elected Peter Hidalgo of La Verne, who will represent Area 1. His addition marks the first time the board has been composed entirely of people of color.
Hidalgo takes over for Rosanne Bader in serving the communities of north Pomona, San Dimas, Bonita, La Verne, and South Glendora. Bader was on the Mt. SAC Board for 17 years before deciding not to seek re-election this year.
Hidalgo is a government affairs executive in the telecommunications industry, with over 20 years of experience in both public and private industry leading public affairs and communication teams. He previously served as press secretary for former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan.
Giving back to the youth of the greater Los Angeles area has been a longtime priority for Hidalgo. He is a board member for The Learning Centers at Fairplex, Just Us 4 Youth and LAs BEST Board. He also serves as chair of the San Gabriel Valley Economic Partnership.
“I believe that access to affordable education has the power to change lives and I am no exception,” Hidalgo said. “Community college changed the course of my life by opening the door to possibilities and a better future. I want to do all I can to offer this hope to all students and my community.”
Ecuadorian-born Hidalgo attended Citrus College, where his experience as a student leader set the course for his professional life in public affairs. He later earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Azusa Pacific University in Organizational Leadership.
