Joe Jennum Named Athletic Director Of The Year

Mt. SAC Director of Athletics Joe Jennum was named the 2023-24 National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Community College Athletics Director of the Year.  The award spans seven collegiate divisions across the country including the NCAA, NAIA, and Community College levels.

On June 11, Jennum will be presented with the Athletics Director of the Year Award during the 59th Annual NACDA Convention at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas. This award recognizes and celebrates the dedication and positive impact of 28 athletics directors across various levels, showcasing their unwavering commitment to student-athletes, campuses, and their local communities.

"This is a tremendous honor, but it's not a solo accomplishment," Jennum said. "It's a collective achievement, made possible by the dedication of my staff, coaches, student-athletes, and the unwavering support from our administration and Board of Trustees. This recognition truly belongs to every individual associated with Mt. SAC.Joe Jennum and Tammy Knott-Silva smile with an award.

“I would also like to thank my athletics director colleagues from across the country for their friendship, guidance, and advice along my administrative journey. It helped shape who I am as a Director of Athletics.”

Jennum has been at the helm of the Mt. SAC Athletics Program since August 2010, overseeing all 24 sports. Under his guidance, Mt. SAC has reached incredible heights, including clinching the esteemed Learfield Sports Directors Cup Championship in 2014-15. The Mounties also secured 12 NATYCAA Daktronics Cup Championships in the state association division. With an impressive 40 California Community College Athletics Association (CCCAA) State Championships, Mt. SAC is undeniably one of the top athletic programs among California's 116 Community Colleges. Not to mention, during Jennum's tenure, Mt. SAC Athletics set a NATYCAA Daktronics Cup State Association record for the highest score (187.50 adjusted / 222 non-adjusted), along with claiming the next three highest scores in history.

Recently, Mt. SAC completed major construction on four facility upgrades, including a new Hilmer Lodge Stadium, a new multi-floor gymnasium and aquatics facility, along with a recently completed, six-court sand volleyball facility.
