ITAL 1, 2, 3, and 4 need to be taken in sequence. As you plan your Italian studies, check the course schedule below.

Fall
Online: ITAL 1, 2, 3, and 4
In-person: ITAL 1, ITAL 61 (Culture Through Food)

Winter
Online only: ITAL 1, ITAL 53* (Conversation)

Spring
Online: ITAL 1, 2, 3, 4, and ITAL 60 (Culture Through Cinema)
In-person: ITAL 1 (ITAL 2, starting Spring 2028)

Summer
Online only: ITAL 1, ITAL 61 (Culture Through Food)

Note:
ITAL 1, 2, and 61 are offered both in-person and online. ITAL 3, 4, and 60 are offered online only. Online courses are taught asynchronously, except for ITAL 53. ITAL 53 is offered online synchronously and meets via Zoom.

If you have prior experience with Italian and would like to take a placement test, please contact the Italian Language Coordinator at sott1@mtsac.edu before the term in which you plan to enroll.

Why Learn Italian?

Why learn Italian? Because it’s a gateway to art, history, music, fashion—and yes, pizza, pasta, and gelato!

Whether you're interested in exploring the world of Dante, musing about the Mona Lisa, comparing Armani and Versace, tasting Sicilian caponata, cheering for Pirlo, or engaging with La dolce vita, learning Italian offers a rich, interdisciplinary experience that bridges the humanities and contemporary global culture.

Our language program emphasizes communication, with a focus on interactive in-person and online lessons that build real-world language skills. Students have the opportunity to learn from Italian natives, attend cultural events, and discover Italy both in the classroom and through travel opportunities. We also offer two unique classes with perspectives on Italian Culture through Cinema and Italian Culture through Food.

So what draws you to Italian? Whether it’s travel, creativity, or curiosity, learning Italian at Mt.SAC opens doors to linguistic competence, cultural insights, and new perspectives!
