-
What language should I take?
There are many factors to consider when choosing which language to study. You may want to learn something completely new and choose a language based on its intriguing culture. You may choose a language that relates to your field of study or to your ancestry. Some students already partially know a language and would like to learn it more in depth. These students should contact a professor in the discipline to determine which class would best suit their needs.

What are Spanish 11 and Spanish 12?
Spanish 11 and Spanish 12 are courses designed for heritage learners. These are students who are already familiar with Spanish but would like to round out their knowledge with an academic approach to the language. These courses also focus on the notion of cultural identity within the Spanish-speaking world.
-
Is Spanish 11 more difficult than Spanish 1?
No, it is not more difficult. There are two tracks within the Spanish discipline. One caters to students who are learning Spanish as a true second language. The other track caters to so-called Heritage learners who are already somewhat familiar with the Spanish language through their upbringing and environment. Generally speaking, heritage learners are bored in “regular” Spanish classes (to the point of underperforming) and benefit greatly from Spanish 11 and 12 instead. Please contact a Spanish professor for advice on which track to choose.
