Biology Program
The Biological Sciences Department is one of the largest and most diverse on the campus. We offer a wide array of classes, from "cell-squisher" subjects such as Histotechnology, Cell and Molecular Biology, and Microbiology to "tree-hugger" subjects such as Humans and the Environment, Cultural Anthropology, and Ecology and Field Biology.
With 22 full-time faculty, 35 adjunct faculty and 4 lab technicians, our resources include modern lecture classrooms and teaching laboratories in the new Science Complex, as well as special facilities such as the Wildlife Sanctuary, B.J. Meek collection, cadaver lab, biology department museum, greenhouse, and specimen pond. Besides preparing students to transfer to four-year institutions, we have a successful vocational program in Histotechnology, whose graduates have an extremely high pass rate on their national certification exam and an equally impressive record in finding employment.
Our full listing of courses includes those in Anatomy and Physiology, Anthropology (including Archaeology), Biology (including Human Health and Human Sexuality), Botany, Histotechnology, and Microbiology. Our students have a wide range of interests from the many pre-nursing and pre-allied health students in our Anatomy, Physiology and Microbiology courses to our many non-science majors fulfilling their GE requirements to our many science majors taking majors courses such as Bio 2, 4, 8, and 34.
