New Faculty Seminar
Usually in October, ACCESS faculty and staff present an hour long session at the New Faculty Seminar describing the services offered, present universal design strategies and to answer questions.
ACCESS provides classroom presentations for Mt. SAC faculty upon request. These presentations will be customized to the professor's needs. Examples of presentation topics include ACCESS services, courses offered by ACCESS, common characteristics of students with learning disabilities, and legal issues surrounding disability services. To arrange for an individualized presentation contact the ACCESS Department Secretary Carole Stevens.

Accommodating Students with Disabilities in the Classroom

This is an 8-week web-based, HYBRID COURSE designed for those who provide direct instruction to students. In this course, faculty participants will learn strategies for fully including students with disabilities in academic activities. Participants will also discuss studies and review answers to questions faculty members frequently ask about accommodating students with disabilities in their classes. On-campus and off-campus resources will be explored. Faculty participants will be asked to select one of their existing courses to review in light of the issues presented during this course. For the selected course, faculty will examine access for students with disabilities, explore accommodation strategies and consider modifications that would make it more accessible to students with a wide variety of disabilities. Course activities include online readings, videos, online discussions, a face to face interview, and individual projects. Faculty may elect to earn 32 hours of Salary Advancement Credit.
Please note that this activity is scheduled from June 7 through August 2, 2016, primarily ONLINE.
All Faculty Welcome! Full-time and Adjunct faculty may earn 32 hours of Salary Advancement Credit, or 2 units of satisfactory completion.
In addition, participants must attend ONE mandatory meeting. Choose between:

Disability Celebration Month
Disability Celebration Month is typically held in October. A variety of activities
are planned throughout the month to celebrate the accomplishments of and to bring
awareness to barriers that commonly exist for individuals with disabilities.
