For only the second time in the college’s history, both the men’s and women’s cross country teams have concurrently captured the California Community College State Championship. The last time this happened was in 1989.

For the women, the 2017 state title marks the ninth California crown for the team. Mt. SAC’s Maria Castello was top runner for the women, placing 15th overall in a time of 19:04. The last time Mt. SAC women won the state championship was in 2014.

For Mt. SAC men, the 2017 state championship marks the second time they have won the title. Mt. SAC’s top runner, Manuel Fernandez, placed first overall at the championships with a clocking of 20.06. The Mountie men last won the state title in 1989, but have finished second at the championships an amazing 12 times.

The men’s team is coached by Daniel Ozan, while the women’s coach is Doug Todd.
