Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get placed into math courses?
All students should take the Assessment Questionnaire (AQ). After completing the AQ, you will most likely receive your math placement immediately. If you don't receive a math placement, then the AQ will help explain what your next step should be to get a math placement. Please visit the Assessment Center website for more information about getting placed into math courses.
How can I get credit for a Mt. SAC course if I took a similar course at another college?
Fill out a variance form that can be obtained from the Natural Sciences Division Office or the Math Department Office and have it signed by the Department Chair and Division Dean.
Can I use the geometry class I completed in high school to waive the geometry prerequisite
Yes, as long as you completed a full year of geometry in high school and your grade for both semesters are C or better. To obtain a waiver to enroll in Math 150, please bring a copy of your high school transcripts to the Math Department Office for evaluation.
If a class is full and I want to add the class, what do I do?
Students wishing to add a full class may list their name on the waitlist for the course, attend the first day of class and ask the instructor if they have room for you to add.
Where can I find tutoring or other assistance related to my math course?
Free tutoring is offered to students enrolled in Math 50-71 in the Math Activities Resource Center (MARC) in Building 61 Room 1318. Students enrolled in Math 100 and above may receive free tutoring in the Transfer Math Activities Resource Center in Building 61 Room 1314.
