Immunization requirement for students preparing to enroll in:

ASCI 51 - Handling & Restraint
AGHE 60 - Medical Nursing
AGHE 61 - Surgical Nursing
AGHE 65 - Radiography
AGHE 84B - Applied Animal Health Procedures
AGHE 83A - Work Experience

Students will be blocked from registering from the above classes if all three steps outlined below are not completed.

How to Submit Immunization Records

  Download the Registered Vet Tech Immunization Checklist.
- 2Step 2 - Complete the Immunization Checklist
  
  Complete the Immunization Checklist by getting your 2-doses of rabies vaccine.
  
  If you have health insurance, students with their own healthcare provider have been successful getting vaccinated through their own doctor by supplying a letter from the College. Click HERE for the letter!
  
  If you do not have your own healthcare provider or you are not able to go through your healthcare provider, rabies immunizations are offered through companies such as The Healthy Traveler, Walgreens, GoodRx, Costco, CVS, and others.
- 3Step 3 - Submit the Immunization Checklist
  
  Submit the completed Immunization Checklist
  Please submit and upload your Immunization Checklist AND a copy of your immunization record to our Immunization Smartsheet. Please submit documents as .pdf, .jpg, or .png. This application will not open Apple-type documents like .heic files.
  
  Note: If you do not complete the Checklist and show proof of BOTH RABIES VACCINES, your submission will be discarded and may delay processing your clearance.
  
  Clearance is a 2-step process and takes approximately 3 - 5 business days per step. You will receive an email once you are cleared.
- 4Step 4 - Ready to renew ???
  Following the first 2-dose vaccination, you must submit:
  - Either a one-time titer check, with results, after 1 year and up to 3 years
  Or
  - 1-dose booster between 3 weeks and 3 years
  You will not be able to register until you have completed the Immunization Smartsheet with the appropriate information.
  
  Clearance is a 2-step process and takes approximately 3 - 5 business days. You will receive an email once you are cleared.
  
  You are now permanently cleared for classes that utilize live animals for the duration of your animal education at Mt. SAC!

- When should I submit my immunization documentation?
  
  Immunization documentation should be submitted as soon as all required steps have been completed. Documentation must be submitted and verified prior to enrollment in courses involving live animal contact and, for Limited Admissions applicants, prior to final eligibility review.
  
  To avoid delays in registration or admission review, students are encouraged to complete this requirement well in advance of their intended enrollment term.
- How much will it cost to obtain the required immunizations?
  
  Costs vary by provider. Some health insurance carriers may cover the vaccine upon request. Students are encouraged to contact their healthcare provider or one of the approved vendors listed in the immunization instructions to inquire about pricing and coverage.
- My healthcare provider is requesting documentation from the College regarding the immunization requirement. Can I obtain a letter?
  Yes. An Official Letter from the Vice President of Instruction (VPI) confirming the immunization requirement is available. Students may provide this documentation to their healthcare provider as needed.
- Can I decline to receive the required immunization?
  
  Students are not required to disclose medical information beyond what is necessary to verify compliance with the immunization requirement. Proof of immunization (or documented protective titer) is necessary to register for courses involving live animal contact. Students who do not provide documentation will not be eligible to enroll in those courses.
- My medical records are confidential. Can I refuse to provide proof of immunization?
  
  Students are not required to provide full medical records. Only documentation necessary to verify compliance with the immunization requirement must be submitted. Without verified documentation, registration in courses involving live animal contact will not be permitted.
- What if I have a medical condition that prevents me from receiving the immunization? Can I be exempt?
  
  Rabies immunization (or documented protective titer) is an essential safety requirement of the RVT Program due to live animal contact and AVMA CVTEA accreditation standards, as well as College health and safety policies (BP/AP 5210).
  
  Students seeking accommodation related to this requirement must initiate the interactive accommodation process through the Mt. SAC Accessibility Resource Center (ARC). Accommodation requests are reviewed in accordance with safety, accreditation, and institutional policy requirements. If essential safety standards cannot be met, participation in animal-contact coursework may not be permitted.
