Program Activities & Support

Mt. SAC student doing research

This program provides financial support coupled with advising, mentoring, academic support, and undergraduate research experience or internship to selected cohorts of Mt. SAC STEM/Technology students to enhance their academic success. More specifically, the program will provide the selected students with an opportunity to participate in either an "authentic undergraduate research project" at a research institution (for STEM students who plan to transfer) or an "internship in technology" (for students in technology programs).

Students accepted into the program would participate in either a paid summer research project in the laboratories of leading STEM researchers at an assigned research institution or participate in an internship program in technology. These experiences, together with the mentorship received from university faculty or technology advisors while working on the project would help students acquire essential skill sets including communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills that are critical for employment in the 21st Century technical workplace. The research opportunity will occur during the summer to allow students to concentrate on full-time studies during the academic year, however, the technology internship could occur during any academic semester.  At the conclusion of the summer research or internship, students will give an oral or poster presentation and/or a written research report on their project results.
