Martin Mason

Martin Mason joined the Mt. SAC faculty in 2002 and served as the Engineering Department chair for six years.  He currently is the Electrical, Computer and Software engineering coordinator.  He designed, obtained funding for and implemented the 6000 ft^2 mountie makerspace on the Mt. San Antonio college campus to promote student projects and entrepreneurship.  Prior to this effort he created a Science, Engineering Technology Student Center on Campus which led to the foundation of our STEM center.   His research in physics has focused on the implementation of research based Video and Microcomputer Laboratories and workshop style project-based courses across the physics curriculum.   He led the effort to have Mt. SAC physics recognized as part of an Exemplary Physics Program by the Strategic Program for Innovation in Undergraduate Physics at the Two Year College.  He has developed new engineering courses on campus including Physical Computing, MATLAB, and the new Critical Thinking for Engineers course.  He started the award winning robotics team in 2007 and led it to the World Championship in 2010 and has led the team to the World Championships, 10 of the last 11 years.  In 2009, he started the Mt. SAC experimental rocketry team which has won state and regional awards at University Rocketry competitions.  Recognized as distinguished teaching faculty of the year for 2008 and selected for excellence in Technical Innovation in 2012, he continues to advocate for increased recognition for the role the engineering program plays within STEM at Mt. SAC.  He is an avid competitor on the TV program BattlebotsTM  appearing on ABC and the Discovery Channel, and has appeared internationally on the television programs "This is Fighting Robots" and "King of Bots".
