November 2024 Native American & Indigenous Heritage Month
November 07, 2024 - 11:45 AM
November is Native American and Indigenous Heritage Month, and this year Mt. SAC’s First People’s Native Center will be hosting 25 events to celebrate.
Be sure to come by and honor the rich cultures, traditions, and contributions of Native Americans and Indigenous peoples. The center celebrated its opening ceremony Wednesday, Nov. 6 with a Dine (Navajo) Tribe sacred dance presentation. This is the first time Mt. SAC has celebrated an opening ceremony for Native American and Indigenous Heritage Month.
"Our Native American and Indigenous Heritage Month is celebrated with the perspective that Native nations have lived on these lands now known as the United States for thousands of years, well before the arrival of European settlers.
Native American Heritage Month was officially designated in 1990 and the month recognizes the resilience and cultural heritage of Indigenous communities. Through educational programs and cultural events, the month addresses important issues like sovereignty, environmental justice, and language preservation, ensuring Indigenous voices are heard and valued in broader cultural conversations," says Primavera Reza-Nakonechny, director of the First Peoples Native Center.
