Celebrate Black History Month

January 27, 2026 - 12:50 AM

The 15th annual Black History Month Luncheon will be on Feb. 4 from noon to 2 p.m. on the third floor of Building 410.

This year’s theme is “A Century of Black History Commemorations”, and Mt. SAC professor Andreanna McCall will be the keynote speaker.

This year marks the milestone of 100 years since Dr. Carter G. Woodson first established the celebration of Black History Month in the United States of America.

"The establishment and ongoing work of the Center for Black Culture and Student Success (CBCSS) carries this legacy by creating a space where the Black experience is intentionally centered, and culturally responsive education and support are prioritized," said Dr. Catherine Jermany, Director, CBCSS. "Just as our ancestors built spaces and communities that resisted erasure, their legacy laid the groundwork for the collective struggles we continue to witness today, including resistance within Native communities fighting to preserve their culture and land, immigrant communities advocating for belonging and safety, and queer and transgender communities advocating for visibility and liberation.

"The strategies, courage, and vision that shape today’s movements are deeply rooted in the legacy of Black resistance, reminding us that our struggles are interconnected and that liberation is collective."
