ARTC 165 - Illustration

This introductory illustration class focuses on clear visual communication. Students will create striking visual stories in both traditional and digital media using state of the art equipment and techniques. With each project you will learn how to successfully take a basic sketch to a fully rendered illustration simulating the steps and stages that you will experience working with clients. The business of illustration is also an integral part of the course. We discuss contracts, marketing, pricing, and how to network. Students will learn how to create work in a variety of styles and skillsets that will prepare them for a successful career in Illustration.

ARTC 163 - Dynamic Sketching

Learn how to enhance your draftsmanship skills by drawing from direct observation. Visit locations like the LA Zoo, The Huntington Library, Planes of Fame, and the Natural History Museum to name a few. Utilizing simple volumetric construction, line variation, and value, you will learn how to illustrate and sketch complex imagery from any angle. If you want to improve your drawing ability and draftsmanship, this class is for you!

ARTC 167/ANIM 167 - Visual Development

Learn how to develop striking visuals and illustrations for video games, television, and film. Students learn story structure and how to build a narrative from their work. While developing your original story you will learn how to create props, characters, backgrounds, and interior layouts that enhance your visual story. Students will also learn how to pitch their original story to the class and work together on projects simulating the creative environment and collaboration of working in a studio.

ARTC 169 - Contemporary Illustration

Learn how to advance upon your illustration techniques with projects catered to freelance illustration. The projects are specifically designed to showcase the skillset of working professionals. Working with a variety of media along with stylization you will learn how to turn your passion for creating art into a business, utilizing contemporary trends and styles.
