Do you have a hold on your account? The hold can be identified by a 2-digit code, including AD, AT, BR, BU, CW, F1, FA, FA, IT, LL, NS, OR, PD, PE, RC, SA, SL, SS. “AD,” for example, stands for Admissions and Records.

    • AD - Admissions and Records

      Q. Why do I have this hold on my record?
      A. This hold is typically placed when the Admissions and Records Office process an Enrollment verification or a Transcript request that was received via U.S. Mail without payment.

      Q. Does this hold prevent me from registering?
      A. Yes.

      Q. How do I clear this hold?
      A. These are recommended methods for payments:

        • Pay online using VISA, MasterCard, Discover, American Express or a check card displaying the above logos.
        • Pay by Mail by mailing a check or money order payable to Mt. SAC with your ID number included on the check or money order at Cashier's Office, 1100 North Grand Avenue, Walnut, California 91789.

    • AT - Arts Division

      Q. Why do I have this hold on my record?
      A. Equipment (video or still cameras, musical instruments, lighting gear, etc...) or items (sheet music, performance tuxedo or dress) checked out to you in the Music, Photography, or Film/TV program was not returned, came back damaged, or was lost.

      Q. Does this hold prevent me from registering?
      A. Yes.

      Q. How do I clear this hold?
      A. Please return the equipment or item for which the hold was placed to the department where the hold was originally placed or the Arts Division Office, 12-1210.

    • BR - Bookstore Rental Fee

      Q. Why do I have this hold on my record?
      A. Not yet returned Textbook Rental by due date.

      Q. Does this hold prevent me from registering?
      A. Yes.

      Q. How do I clear this hold?
      A. Go to the Bookstore and pay fees.

      Q. Who can I contact if I have questions?

    • BU - Child Development Center

      Q. Why do I have a hold on my record?
      A. Missing proof of immunization or Flu. Students interested in registering in CHLD 66, CHLD 66L, CHLD 67, CHLD 67L, CHLD 87 and CHLD 91 must show proof of state mandated immunizations.

      Q. Does this hold prevent me from registering?
      A. Yes.

      Q. How do I clear this hold?
      A. Bring your completed immunization clearance form with immunization documentation to the Child Development Center, Building 70 to clear the hold.

      Q. Who can I contact if I have questions?
      A. General questions may be answered by calling the Child Development Center at (909) 274-4920.

    • CO - COTOP Collections Agency

      Q. Why do I have a hold on my record?
      A.  Any current or former student who owes a debt to the college for "Past Due Fees" (e.g. unpaid registration fees, returned check fees, unpaid loans and/or financial aid overpayments) are placed on hold.

      Q. Does this hold prevent me from registering?
      A. Yes.

      Q. How do I clear this hold?
      A. Holds will be released when the student satisfactorily meets his/her financial obligation.  Students can pay their fees in full online through their Mt. SAC student portal #25.  Please note the HOLD will be released overnight.  However, if a student must have their hold released right away, they should contact the Cashier's Office.

      Q. Why do I have a hold on my record?
      A. Equipment (digital voice recorder or calculator) or textbooks was not returned, came back damaged, or was lost.

      Q. Does this hold prevent me from registering?
      A. Yes.

      Q. How do I clear this hold?
      A. Please return the equipment or textbook for which the hold was place to the CalWORKs Office located in building 9B.

    • F1 - F1 Student Hold

      Q. Why do I have this hold on my record?
      A. You are classified as an F1 International Student and need to attend the mandatory International Student Orientation Or you are missing Medical Insurance.

      Q. Does this hold prevent me from registering?
      A. Yes.

      Q. How do I clear this hold?
      A. You can clear this hold once you attend the International Student Orientation and the International Staff verify your attendance. If your hold is due to Medical Insurance, you will need to provide proof to the Admissions Office or International Student Center.

    • FA - Financial Aid

      Q. Why do I have this hold on my record?
      A. The Financial Aid Hold is placed on your account because you received an overpayment of federal or state aid fund.

      Q. Does this hold prevent me from registering?
      A. Yes.

      Q. How do I clear this hold?
      A. After a student pays their fees in full online through their Mt.SAC student portal #25, the HOLD will be released within 5 minutes of payment.

      Q. Who can I contact if I have questions?
      A. Contact the Financial Aid Office at (9090 274-4450 regarding specific information about this fee, or contact the 
      Cashier's Office (909) 274-4960 regarding information on repayment of this fee.

    • HU - Humanities Division

      Q. Why do I have this hold on my record?
      A. Equipment belonging to a department within the division has not been returned.

      Q. Does this hold prevent me from registering?
      A. Yes.

      Q. How do I clear this hold?
      A. Return the equipment or pay for its replacement.

      Q. Who can I contact if I have questions?

    • IT - IT Scripted Reg Attempt

      Q. Why do I have this hold on my record?
      A. The IT department at Mt. SAC monitors the Mt. SAC portal to ensure that systems are up and reliable for all students, especially during times of peak registration activity. Mt. SAC's IT Acceptable Use Policy (https://www.mtsac.edu/governance/trustees/apbp/AP3720.pdf) prohibits activities that place an excessive load on the system to the extent that other users may be denied service. The IT hold is temporarily placed on the records of students who are conducting an unusually large number of registration transactions, which is often an indication of a "bot" or automated process which is not allowed.

      Q. Does this hold prevent me from registering?
      A. Yes.

      Q. How do I clear this hold?
      A. This hold is temporary. For the first occurrence it suspends access to the registration system for 2 days, and is lifted automatically. You can continue registration activity on the third day after the placement of the hold. You will receive an e-mail notification with more details regarding this hold.

    • KA - Kinesiology, Athletics and Dance Division

      Q. Why do I have this hold on my record?
      A. You did not return your team equipment, team gear or a WIN Center textbook that was issued to you.

      Q. Does this hold prevent me from registering and viewing/ordering transcripts?
      A. Yes.

      Q. How do I clear this hold?
      A. Return the item(s) issued or pay the assigned cost in cash or money order, to the Kinesiology Division Office.

      Q. Who can I contact if I have questions?

    • LL - Library/Learning Resources

      Q. Why do I have this hold on my record?
      A. Assumed lost library materials means the materials are over 30 days late and assumed lost.

      Q. Does this hold prevent me from registering?
      A. Yes.

      Q. How do I clear this hold?
      A. Return materials to library, should be cleared the same day or up to 24 hrs M-F

      If materials are truly lost or student took a reserve (library use only) book home, then student must make an appointment to speak with the Department Chair or the Assoc. Dean (ext. 5659). After the meeting the student should be cleared the same day or up to 24 hrs. M-F unless there have been multiple loss of items by the student.

      If the materials are from another library, they must be returned and the fines must be paid to other institution. The other library will notify Mt. SAC Library of the return and payment. Once notification has been made the student should be cleared the same day or up to 24 hrs. M-F.

    • NS - Failure to return calculator to MARC or TMARC lab

      Q. Why do I have this hold on my record?
      A. You borrowed a calculator or graphing calculator from the MARC or T-MARC labs and have not returned it.

      Q. Does this hold prevent me from registering?
      A. Yes.

      Q. How do I clear this hold?
      A. You must return the calculator to the lab. If you have lost the calculator, you may purchase a like model and turn it in as a replacement.

    • OR - Orientation Hold

      Q. Why do I have this hold on my record?
      A. All new and returning students must complete an orientation before registration.

      Q. Does this hold prevent me from registering?
      A. Yes.

      Q. How do I clear this hold?
      A. You must complete an online orientation.  Complete the online orientation by clicking the Student Success tab on the Mt SAC portal to access the orientation. 

      An exemption is available for students who meet certain criteria. Visit the Mt.SAC Orientation page for more information.

      Q. Why do I have this hold on my record?

      Q. Why do I have this hold on my record?
      A. A check for fees was returned to the college from your bank for insufficient funds.

      Q. Does this hold prevent me from registering?
      A. Yes.

      Q. How do I clear this hold?
      A. Holds will be released when the student satisfactorily meets his/her financial obligation.  Students can pay their fees in full online through their Mt. SAC student portal #25.  Please note the HOLD will be released overnight.  However, if a student must have their hold released right away, they should contact the Cashier's Office.

    • SA - Special Admit

      Q. Why do I have this hold on my record?
      A. When you completed your Mt. SAC online application, you identified yourself as a current high school student “enrolled in college and high school at the same time.”

      Q. Does this hold prevent me from registering?
      A. Yes. This hold is only released if you complete all the necessary steps to participate in the Special Admit, Dual Enrollment or Upward Bound program.

      Q. How do I clear this hold?
      A. You can clear this hold by completing the Special Admit, Dual Enrollment or Upward Bound program application process. If you are not a high school student and applied incorrectly, please provide Admissions and Records with your official high school transcripts and contact Raymone Dashiell at rdashiell@mtsac.edu or call (909)766-0628 after submitting them to release your SA hold.

    • SL - Student Life

      Q. Why do I have this hold on my record?
      A. The Student did not schedule a Discipline Conference by the specified timeline (check your Mt. SAC student email)
      or The Student has pending (incomplete) sanctions

      Q. Does this hold prevent me from registering?
      A. Yes.

      Q. How do I clear this hold?
      A. Contact the Student Life Office at (909) 274-4525 to schedule a Discipline Conference
      or Complete the pending sanctions and inform the Student Life Office at (909) 274-4525

    • SS - Student Services-Access Center

      Q. Why do I have this hold on my record?
      A. You checked out equipment from Access Center and didn't return the equipment by the due date.

      Q. Does this hold prevent me from registering?
      A. Yes.

      Q. How do I clear this hold?
      A. Return the equipment promptly to Access Center, Student Services Building, 9B M-Th 8-6, F 8-4:30 and make sure you get a receipt from Access Center. After the equipment is checked, and found to be in good working order, your hold will be removed within 24 hours. If equipment is lost, stolen, or damaged, please call Access Center at (909) 274-4290 and make an appointment to meet with the Dean of Access Center to determine how to clear your hold.
