The Associate in Arts in English for Transfer introduces students to Literature written in English and gives them the option of studying creative writing. Completion of the degree provides students with the core skills and knowledge needed to pursue a baccalaureate degree in English. Those core skills and knowledge include the ability to analyze literature and the ability to write researched analytical papers. Students who earn this degree will be able to write a literary analysis, analyze major themes and concerns in literature, and identify the influence of culture on human expression. Students earning an associate degree for transfer will not be required to complete any other local graduation requirements.

The degree can be earned with attainment of a minimum grade point average of 2.0 upon completion of 60 semester units that are eligible for transfer to the California State University, including both of the following the Cal-GETC pattern and a minimum of 18 semester units in a major or area of emphasis, as determined by Mt. San Antonio College. Students must earn a C or better in all courses required for the major or area of emphasis. A “P” (Pass) grade is also an acceptable grade for courses in the major if the course is taken on a Pass or No Pass basis.
