Who Should Apply?
Students who meet the following criteria and are interested in teaching, as a career, are encouraged to apply:

- Are committed to teaching science or math at the middle or high-school level after completing a bachelors degree and earning teaching credentials
- Are currently enrolled and majoring in Science, Engineering, Technology or Mathematics (STEM) courses at Mt. SAC
- Have completed a minimum of four transferable science and/or math courses with a minimum GPA of 2.80
- Are United States citizen or permanent resident
STEM TP2 Program Stipends
If selected, students will receive stipends to participate as a teaching aid at the Summer Science Exploration Experience (SSEE), teach as a Supplemental Instructor (SI) for a STEM course and receive a summer stipend to participate in a 6-week research project at UC Irvine.
Throughout the program students will experience a support system that includes counseling advice, support from educational advisors and contact with science faculty and local master teachers. This support system will enable students to gain educational experience, develop content knowledge and increase their communications skills. The program also provides opportunities to learn about application of educational technologies in teaching in order for students to be highly successful in their teaching career.
After transferring, completing their studies and obtaining their teaching credentials, the students will be well prepared for a rewarding career as middle or high-school science or math teacher.

- Complete major course requirements through the Mt. SAC Teacher Preparation Institute (TPI)
- Transfer to Science and Math Teacher preparation programs at four-year schools like UCI and CSUF
- Complete teacher certification and obtain a California science teaching credential after transfer
- Mentor by math and science faculty
- Gain teaching experiences through tutoring, participating as teaching aid in the Summer Science Exploration Experience (SSEE) camp and as a Supplemental Instructor (SI) at Mt. SAC
- Conduct research at Mt. SAC and UCI in science, math and teaching pedagogy
- Interact with students in Cal Teach program at UCI and participate in community events offered through the program

Average Salary of Teachers in California
According to the California Department of Education, the average salary for California's public school teachers for 2011-12 was $68,531 with a minimum starting salary of $42,865. (Teacher's salaries are established by each school district.) (More information regarding teacher salary schedule, benefits and additional salary incentives can be obtained by contacting individual school districts directly.)

- A copy of your unofficial transcript
All materials are due no later than 5:00 pm on Friday May 11, 2018. Materials should be submitted to either Dr. Charles Newman in building 7-2108 I or Dr. Iraj Nejad in building 7-2108 C. Applications received after this deadline will be considered based on space availability.
