Serena Ott
Serena was born in Germany and raised in Germany and Italy. She completed her B.A.
in French and German at the University of Bologna, Italy, and her M.A. in Comparative
Literature and Romance Philology at the University of the Saarland, Germany. During
her undergraduate studies, Serena attended the University of Paris XII for one year.
Professor Ott has taught Italian, French, German, and Latin. At Mt.SAC she has taught
all levels of Italian language, Latin language, Italian Culture through Cinema, and
Italian Culture through Food. She created and now teaches the Languages, Gender, and Power as well as the Introduction
to World Languages course. In spring she teaches about Humanities and the Human Experience.
Serena has advised the Italian club, which won Mt.SAC Club of the Year in 2014, and was recognized Educator
of Distinction the same year. Serena also taught in the Study Abroad program in Rome
in Fall 2023.
On campus Serena has served on the Ed Design committee. She was Secretary and Co-Vice
President of Academic Senate from 2017 to 2020. She also held the department chair/co-chair
role from 2016 to 2020. She currently serves as the Department Faculty Assocation
Representative.
Professor Ott has been at Mt.SAC since 2009.
