Karen Curran, Professor - Emeritus

Bio:

I was born in Dorchester, MA but moved to California when I was a very young child.  I attended and earned an AS in Child Development from Cerritos Community College and an AA in Art.  I transferred to California State University Fullerton where I earned a BS in Child Development and a Minor in Art and Psychology.  After many years out of school, I continued my education earning an MA in Human Development with an emphasis in college teaching from Pacific Oak College in Pasadena.

I was the lead preschool teacher at Rio Hondo Community College for 23 years and adjunct faculty at East Los Angeles Community College and Rio Hondo College.

I began my full-time teaching career at Mt San Antonio College in August of 1999 in the Child Development Department.  I was Co-Department Chair and was on the Academic Senate and various other committees.  I have been teaching online for over 17 years and Canvas is my 4th platform.  I retired in February 2013 and 180 days later returned to teach part-time solely online.

I am the Regional Coordinator for the California Early Childhood Mentor Program with five (5) colleges in my region: Chaffey College, Citrus College, Glendale College, Mt San Antonio College, and Pasadena City College.

I volunteer at CHOC-Children's (Children's Hospital of Orange County) and Ronald McDonald House Orange County.  I have twin Grandsons who are 11 who keep me on my toes and prove to me that, "that is why the young have children".

One of my biggest joys is meeting and getting to know my students and helping them reach their goals.
