Corie Hernandez, PT, MEd

My name is Corie Hernandez and I began my journey as an educator in 1994 as an Instructional assistant for the Rowland Unified School District in southern California.  It was as an instructional assistant that I realized my love for teaching.  Over the years, I have progressed through various educational titles, earned a Bachelor‘s Degree from CSU Fullerton in Child and Adolescent Development, earned a Psychiatric Technician's license from the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians, received tenure as a Professor of Mental Health Technology at Mt. San Antonio College, was nominated by my Division Dean for the Debbie Boroch Developmental Educator of the Year Award, and earned a Masters of Education Degree in Instructional Design from Western Governor’s University.

In 2002, when I was nearly at the end of my special education teaching credential program and Masters of Education in Special Education, the No Child Left Behind Act was signed into law and had extensive implications on my credentialing program.  It was at this time that I decided to transition into a healthcare career and entered the Psychiatric Technician Program at Mt. San Antonio College.  I completed the program as the class salutatorian, and was voted “Best Clinically” by my peers. Due to the combination of acquired skills in both the educational and healthcare fields, I was fortunate enough to have been invited by the Board of Vocational Nurses and Psychiatric Technicians (BVNPT) to contribute to the Department of Consumer Affair's ongoing Ocupational Analysis regarding the field of psychiatric technology.

I feel extremely fortunate to be able to bring my unique blend of skill sets to a program and campus that values the education and success of its students and to further contribute to the creation of meaningful curriculum in an ever changing academic and social environment.
