Bio:
My name is Renu Katoch. Currently working as an Educational Advisor and an Adjunct Counselor for Adult Basic Education Center for some of the most marginalized students on campus. I enjoy what I do and love serving the community of students I work with. I can relate well with students, especially with being a first generation college student myself. I started in community college just like you. I started my higher education journey at a community college, then transferred to Cal Poly Pomona to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and recently earned my MS in Counseling from University of LaVerne. Why do you like participating in the Mountie Mentor Program?
It a great opportunity for me to connect with my school in different, yet amazing way. MMM gave me a platform to meet and network with so many people, hear their stories, and share mine.Advice for students:
Get involved! All the book-knowledge in the world will not help you if you come out of college with no experience or professional relationships. What you read in books never truly translates into reality. Getting involved on campus will give you the opportunity to meet and network with so many interesting, people. Engage in diverse activities and broaden your horizons--it will help you grow as a person and leader. You will gain confidence by stepping out of your comfort zone and trying new opportunities; you will grow as a person, find out who you truly are, and learn what your morals and ethics are. Finally, getting involved on campus will give you a sense of belonging--you will start to feel like this is your home away from home.
