Janella Lee
Instructor, Writing Center
Degrees:
University of Southern California, B.A., English (Creative Writing)
California Polytechnic State University, Pomona, M.A., English (TESOL)
Bio:
I'm an English Instructor for the English Department and the DLA specialist for the Writing Center. I was a Mt. SAC student for 2 years and then transferred to USC to finish getting my B.A. I have worked at the Writing Center for almost 6 years now, first as a student worker and now as one of the supervisors. I love this college and value the education I received here more than my time at USC or Cal Poly. As an instructor, my goal is to help students develop their own writing voice and help them see their potential in academia.
Why do you like participating in the Mountie Mentor Program?
I want to help prepare students for the reality of their future.
Advice for students:
I have been "through the system" so to speak, and have worked my way through the different tiers of college: community college to a prominent university to getting an M.A. I took advantage of the many opportunities and resources Mt. SAC provided to me as a student, and I want help other students who are curious about transferring to a private university, letting them know the tips and tricks that will help them succeed or choose the right option for them. I also want to give advice to students about the interpersonal details they should be aware of when they transfer, the reality of finding jobs after college, and I want to help prepare them for the future ahead so that they invest in the best options for their future and, hopefully, avoid student loan debt like I have.
