Program Application
Application window: May 1 - May 26, 2026
To complete your application, 1) select the course you wish to apply for, 2) submit an application form for the course with a copy of your unofficial transcript (including the Fall 2026 classes), and 3) make a $500 deposit using the link below. All items must be submitted to be considered.

Applicant Eligibility Check List
Applicants must meet the following:
- 18 years or older by departure date
- Must maintain a 2.0 cumulative Mt. SAC GPA
- Currently enrolled at Mt. SAC for Spring and Fall 2026; a minimum of 4 credit units
- Completed a minimum of 6 credit units at Mt. SAC at the time of application
- Completed or currently enrolled in ENGL C1000, or equivalent by the end of Spring 2026 (for LING 3) OR
- Completed or currently enrolled or will complete JAPN 2 by the end of Fall 2026 (for JAPN 53)
- Students need to receive a passing grade in the prerequisite course to be eligible
- No disciplinary record with the College
- No current holds on record with the College

Course Selection
Select one course that you wish to apply for. JAPN 53: Conversational Japanese (3 units, prerequisite JAPN2) or LING 3: Languages, Cultures, and Writing in East Asia (3 units, prerequisite ENG C1000).Start -
Application
Complete the application for the selected class. Your unofficial Mt. SAC transcript, including the fall classes, will be required.
The fall registration begins on May 6, 2026. To view an unofficial transcript, locate the Student Self-Service tile on the Mt. SAC portal, select Student Records, and select View Unofficial Transcript.

Make a deposit
On the Mt. SAC Box Office website, make a $500 application deposit. Enter the code 'OSAKA' in the Promotional Code Box. Select 'Deposit - Payment #1 ($500)'.

Notification
Applications will undergo a review process by the Osaka, Japan, Study Abroad Committee.
Students will receive an official notification of their application results by Friday, June 5. If you are not selected, the $500 deposit will be refunded. Please note that credit card processing fees are not refundable. Questions? Contact GoJapan@mtsac.eduCongratulations
