When Will Winners be Announced?

Your Film Slam film will be screened on Sunday, May 22.

A team of industry judges and the public will be screening your films. The top two teams will receive a fabulous prize.* At least we think they’re fabulous but we like to eat at Denny’s so what do we know?

Competition Rules

  • You must come to Mt. SAC on Friday, May 20 at 6pm to pick up three props and a genre. The props must be used in your film as part of the story. What are the props? We aren’t telling you until May 20 at 6pm. The genre you’ll pick out of a hat. Literally, a hat. Might be a love story, a film noir, or a comedy, western or horror film. We aren’t telling. Until May 20 at 6pm.
  • There will be a limit of six separate teams, so get here early to secure your spot!
  • Once you have your props and genre, your team needs to:
    • create a story (write it down or not, that’s up to you)
    • cast your story (get some actors—you’re in LA so this should be easy)
    • shoot your story (with a camera, please)
    • edit your story (with a computer machine)
    • upload your story to the ImagineFest website (www.mtsac.edu/imaginefest/filmslam) by 6pm, Saturday, May 21
  • *The winning team will receive a $150 gift card to Best Buy to be divided among the winners. The second place team will win a $50 gift card.

Other rules and assorted tips:

  • The films that will best compete will be those that focus on an interesting story. Filmmaking is storytelling so that kinda figures. Duh.
  • Late films won’t be accepted so don’t be late.
  • Films may not be longer than 12 minutes and can be as short as you wish so long as you tell a story.
  • Filmmaking is also writing, cinema/videography, sound, and music, editing, art direction, set design, costuming, makeup and acting. So, use these in your film as well.
  • Keep the film’s story and language PG. Okay, PG-13.
