Purpose and Function
PLACEMENT, READINESS, AND PROGRESS: FIRST-YEAR SUCCESS (PReP)
Reports to Student Preparation, Equity, and Achievement Council (SPEAC)
Purpose:
The PReP Committee promotes equitable access and first-year success by evaluating placement, onboarding, and instructional practices that support student achievement in the earliest stages of their academic journey.
Function:
- Recommend equitable placement, assessment, orientation, and counseling strategies in alignment with state policy and best practices.
- Analyze disaggregated first-year student data to identify disproportionate impact and guide instructional and structural improvements.
- Recommend early academic support strategies, such as co-requisite models and first-year learning communities.
- Collaborate with the Office of Research and Institutional Effectiveness (RIE) to assess the impact of onboarding and gateway course interventions.
- Recommend professional development that advances culturally responsive pedagogy for first-year success.
- Ensure that equity considerations are embedded in early curriculum, outcomes assessment, and program development processes.
