What motivated you to go to college? Knowing that both of my parents came from two completely different countries scared and with nothing but a dream, made me realize my purpose here is much bigger than I thought. They both left their families behind and started a new life here on their own. I cannot imagine migrating to another country at the age of 20 with nothing because of the support my parents have provided me.
Describe your college experience as first-generation. As a first-generation student I had to figure out the ins and outs of applying to school and how to succeed while maintaining 2-3 jobs at a time. My parents didn't go to college, but they knew the importance and always stressed that to me. It was very difficult to navigate this campus without having advise from anyone, but day by day I learned new ways to make my college experience a smooth one.
What unique challenges did you face?
How did you overcome those challenges?
What did you advise other first-generation students? I advise first generation students to be more social and active on campus. Try new clubs and programs to broaden your horizons. Make sure to connect with your professors because they are very informative and can help you become a better student in class. Mt.
