What motivated you to go to college?
Describe your college experience as first-generation. My college experience as a first-generation student was good. There were some moments that I found difficult but I didn't let those difficulties get in the way. I had a lot of fun during my time at Mt.Sac. I became very involved in the community by joining Associated Students, the student government on campus. I was a part of different committees. My favorite committee that I enjoyed being a part of was the Facilities Advisory Committee, in where I had a part of helping plan the new Student Life building. After leaving Mt. San Antonio College, I went to CSULB where I was able to succeed due to my classes and mentors that I had at Mt. Sac. After graduating and applying for my Master's, already having the experience from my undergrad, my program was very smooth and achieved finishing my program at a timely manner.
What unique challenges did you face? The only unique challenges I faced being a first-generation student was applying for Financial Aid and learning on how to apply for college. Other then that, I didn't face many other challenges. I had the support of my family which made it very possible for me to succeed.
How did you overcome those challenges? I overcame my challenges through the the support of my family. My mom helped me through the whole thing.
What did you advise other first-generation students? To bug your professor during their office hours and to utilize all the services that your school offers.
