The A.S. Degree in Fashion Merchandising is designed to prepare students for entry-level careers in the apparel industry in Southern California. This A.S. program also offers students courses specializing in apparel retailing, advertising, textiles, and visual communications.
The courses emphasize the business of fashion, wholesale merchandise planning, and apparel branding targeting specific markets. Upon completion of the program, students will be able to develop marketing strategies, create promotional campaigns, understand the buying process, and analyze retail businesses. Entry-level employment opportunities available after completion of this program may include retail sales, small store merchandising and showroom assisting.

      Buy merchandise or commodities, other than farm products, for resale to consumers at the wholesale or retail level, including both durable and nondurable goods. Analyze past buying trends, sales records, price, and quality of merchandise to determine value and yield. Select, order, and authorize payment for merchandise according to contractual agreements. May conduct meetings with sales personnel and introduce new products. Includes assistant wholesale and retail buyers of nonfarm products.
