Why Mt. SAC Theater?

The Mt. San Antonio College Theater Department is committed to the concept of Learning by Doing , not just reading about it or listening to lectures. We provide hands-on experience for actors, technicians, and writers in an active department where students learn their craft from working professionals.

FOR ACTORS - We offer numerous performance opportunities with four mainstage productions and two touring Children's Theater shows each year. We perform for an audience of over 8,000 per year, and offer approximately 85 roles for open casting.  From drama to comedy, tragedy to farce, we give actors the opportunity to develop their craft and gain valuable performance experience in a professional and supportive environment!

FOR DESIGNERS AND TECHNICIANS - We produce our shows in a state-of-the-art facility, giving serious students the opportunity to learn using the best, most modern equipment.  Whether your interest lies in Scenery, Lighting, Costume, Makeup Design, or Stage Management, we can give you the training and practical experience you need to develop your talents!

FOR WRITERS – In our Playwrighting Program, student writers have the opportunity to study the process of writing for the theater with a published playwright, to create short (5 to 15 minute) plays, and to actually see them produced in fully mounted productions as part of our Evening of Short Plays!  From the page to the stage – we will nurture your talents every step of the way!

We have what it takes to provide students with first-class training and production experience!

Our shows are produced in our state-of-the-art facility with two theaters.  Our mainstage theater, the Sophia B. Clarke Theater, is a beautiful proscenium stage that seats over 400 audience members.  The Studio Theater is a flexible black box space that brings the actors and the audience together for a more intimate theatrical experience.

Our faculty and staff members are the heart of our program.  We are professional, award-winning directors, actors, designers, and playwrights who are working in the industry.  Each of us are dedicated to sharing our talent and experience with students to train, guide and nurture them toward their professional and academic goals.
