Virtual Reality

Virtual Reality (VR) is an innovative approach to educating health care professionals.

  • VR programs simulate the clinical experience in a safe environment by heightening the sense of realism in clinical scenarios. They have been shown to be effective in promoting the application of knowledge and skills related to critical thinking, clinical decision-making, and communication regarding clients with one or more mental health issues (Lee et al., 2020). It is anticipated that VR will continue to expand and become a benchmark to ensure clinical competency and patient safety across healthcare systems.

In March 2022, the first VR simulation experience was implemented by the Psych Tech (PT) Program. The PT Team developed a 3D immersive clinical decision scenario using a VR platform, to assess acceptance of new technology and to measure communication skills in a 3D VR environment.
