Charlie Nguyen, M.S.

Charlie Nguyen is an EOPS/CARE Adjunct Counselor at Mount San Antonio College.  He joined Mount San Antonio College in Summer 2023.  Prior to working at Mt. SAC, Charlie served as an Academic Advisor at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) since 2016.  Over the course of his time working in higher education, he finds passion in engaging with students holistically to foster their personal, academic, and professional development.  Charlie is committed to student success and equity, helping students cultivate positive college experiences, and empowering them to overcome obstacles they may encounter along the way.

As a proud first-generation son, raised in a low-income household by immigrant, refugee parents, Charlie understands the unique challenges EOPS students face.  He embarked on his college journey as an EOPS student at Irvine Valley College and was fortunate enough to have had a transformative experience with help from his EOPS counselors.  After, he transferred to CSULB where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a master’s degree in Counseling with an emphasis in Student Development in Higher Education.  The impactful interactions he had with his caring EOPS counselors and their guidance in helping him navigate the college system are what inspired him to pursue a profession as a counselor.  As a former EOPS student, he is enthusiastic about working with the Mt. SAC EOPS/CARE team and is eager to support underrepresented students as they strive towards their goals.

In Charlie’s free time, he enjoys engaging in several different activities.  Some of his hobbies include traveling, playing basketball, attending art shows, and cycling.
