Teacher Preparation Institute

Student Testimonials

After graduating from UCLA with a degree in psychology, I began working with children in a school setting. It didn't take long to realize that my heart was in the field of education. I chose to attend Mt. SAC for the sole purpose of joining the Teacher Preparation Institute because I knew that being a part of this program would be valuable, and it proved to be the best decision I have made! TPI provided the resources and guidance I needed to take huge leaps forward. After being in TPI for one year, I am now simultaneously substitute teaching full-time in elementary schools, applying to joint master's degree/credential programs, tutoring students after school, taking education classes at Mt. SAC, volunteering in classrooms, and volunteering in Girl Scouts to inspire young girls to be confident leaders! Recently, a school principal has entrusted me with a long-term substitute teaching position in which I will be the acting teacher -- with the help from a team of experienced teachers, I'm now designing lesson plans, grading papers, discussing student progress with parents, and getting to know my enthusiastic first graders. I LOVE EVERY MOMENT! Each day brings more challenges, more laughs, more learning opportunities, and more hugs. The extent of my happiness as a member of the school environment is indescribable! I have found my niche as a future teacher, and I owe much of my success to the Teacher Preparation Institute at Mt. SAC. --Josephine Wu

I would like to thank the Teacher Preparation program for being so helpful and inspiring. Thanks to them I was able to earn my A.A. and transfer to Cal Poly. I recommend this program to all students pursuing a teacher credential."                       --Angelica Baro

"Mt. SAC is a student-oriented campus. The faculty and staff are friendly and helpful. When I transferred, I was fully prepared for a smooth transition into the Pre-Credential Liberal Studies program. I am grateful to have attended Mt. San Antonio College." --Michelle Davis

"I would like to express my gratitude for the Teacher Preparation Institute. This program has been extremely helpful to me. It has saved me money on two of my four books needed for classes. This program has also motivated me and given me specific steps in reaching my goal." --Michelle Tessier

"I would like to thank the Teacher Preparation Institute for their constant support during my academic career at Mt. San Antonio College.  The TPI team, especially Dr. Henkins, Mr. Randy Wilson, Mrs. Veronica Baeza, who helped me finish two A.A. degrees in two years with a 3.95 GPA.  They have also helped me transfer successfully to the Liberal Studies program at Cal Poly Pomona.

I would like to thank Dr. Henkins for leading the AmeriCorps program; being a tutor for a school year was a valuable experience as it gave me a lot of confidence to pursue my goal of becoming an elementary school teacher.  And for organizing the CSET Workshop; it was a very helpful workshop as it helped me familiarize myself with the test.  All the Professors who participated in this workshop were exceptional, but Professor Bill Jones was particularly brilliant in the way he successfully organized World History of about 3,000 years in three lecture hours!

I would like to thank Mr. Randy Wilson for organizing priority registration and for giving me careful direction during my preparation and transition to Cal Poly Pomona.  He connected me with the right counselors at Cal Poly Pomona in order to transfer as smoothly as possible.

I would like to thank Mrs. Veronica Baeza for organizing the book lending program which saved me approximately $500.

The Teacher Preparation Institute is a successful program which truly assists and equips future teachers with all the information and skills needed to proceed to the next level of education at a four year college.

I would like to thank all those who have contributed to my success.  I am especially grateful for the sponsors of the TPI program, CSET workshops, and AmeriCorps program.

I would also like to mention the names of the professors who were outstanding, hard working, innovative and caring.  These professors are devoted to their students' progress and success:
