Environmental Studies
The Environmental Studies Program is an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary program that offers a broad overview of ecological issues from a variety of perspectives. The courses in the program examine the interaction between natural and social systems and the philosophical foundations of humanity's attitudes and behaviors with respect to its ever-changing environments. This program is designed to prepare students to research, analyze, and develop solutions to the multiple environmental challenges confronting contemporary societies.
Transfer Preparation
Several colleges and universities offer baccalaureate degrees in this field. Students planning to transfer to a four-year college or university should understand which courses completed at Mt. San Antonio College will be accepted at the specific college/university they plan to transfer to. Consequently they should consult a Counselor. Mt. SAC has transfer articulation agreements with UC and CSU campuses, as well as many private and out-of-state institutions.

An emphasis in Environmental Studies is an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary course of study that provides students with an integrated and critical understanding of the natural environment and human interactions with it. The coursework is designed to examine the interaction between natural and social systems and the philosophical foundations of humanity’s attitudes and behaviors in relation to its dynamic environment. This program is designed to prepare students to research, analyze, and propose solutions to the multiple environmental challenges confronting the world today through a comprehensive curriculum combining classroom, laboratory, and field instruction. Students who are interested in an Environmental Science major are advised to follow the AA in Liberal Arts with an emphasis in natural sciences and to work with a counselor to select major courses appropriate to their intended transfer institution.
Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator Internship:
Governmental Affairs Team
The intern will work with the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator’s (LACI) team to assist with researching and analyzing clean energy, transportation, and sustainability policy, assist in organizing campus visits by stakeholders, and work with staff to put together presentations for City, County, State, and Federal government officials.
The internship will take place during the spring 2024 semester. It will be funded for 16 weeks at a rate of $18 per hour for 10 hours per week. Since the internship deals with public policy related to climate change and sustainability, the intern should be an Environmental Studies major. LACI’s Government Relations team is willing to be flexible about structuring the internship to include both in-person and online work. However, there will be a requirement for substantial in-person work since familiarity with LACI and its resources is necessary to have a holistic understanding of and support the work of the government relations team.
