ESL Program

English as a Second Language offers excellent classes and programs to help improve your English, job, and communication skills. You will learn about American culture, use technology, and work with classmates on projects.  Before enrolling, you will take the ESL Placement Test to see your current English language level.  We offer eight levels of classes, skill classes, and specialized skill classes.

Skill Classes

Skill classes focus on one or two skills. Writing classes focus on reading and writing.  Speaking classes focus on speaking and listening.  Pronunciation classes focus on word and sentence stress, and intonation patterns.  Reading classes focus on pre-reading, skimming, main ideas, details, and vocabulary building.

Citizenship Preparation (for Intermediate, Advanced, and VESL students)

Preparation for the United States Citizenship interview.

TOEFL Preparation (for Advanced and VESL students)

Preparation for the standardized Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

English For

Special Uses (ESU)

ESU courses focus on one occupation or profession.  They are designed for ESL students who need to improve their vocabulary and skills needed in specific areas.


English for Health Professionals (for Advanced and VESL students)

English for careers in healthcare. Medical vocabulary, medically-related documents and presentations.


ESU: Accounting (for Intermediate, Advanced, and VESL students)

English for careers in accounting: vocabulary, cross-cultural awareness, ethics in accounting, problem solving techniques, and business idioms.


ESU: Child Care (for Intermediate students)

This introductory course covers the integrated language skills of reading, writing, listening, speaking, vocabulary, and grammar for parents and future child care providers. Lesson topics include communicating about child care, child health & safety, and ages & stages.


ESU: Child Development (for Advanced and VESL students)

The course focuses on the language skills for students who are interested in taking college-level early childhood education courses in the future. Lesson topics include gathering Information about children, documenting development, factors in child development, socio-emotional development, motor development, and cognitive development.


ESU: Health (for Intermediate students)

The course focuses on health-related vocabulary and increasing students’ awareness of and knowledge about personal and public health. Lesson topics include body systems, functions, and organs as well as various illnesses, nutrition, mental health, and public health.


ESU: Real Estate (for Advanced and VESL students)

Real Estate vocabulary and topics including real estate law, types of properties, mortgage fundamentals, and property management.
