Associated Students Supports the DACA Program
DACA is crucial for students at Mt. SAC
WALNUT, Calif., March 28, 2017 -- We, Associated Students of Mt. San Antonio College, supports and advocates the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program. There is a current fear that the program will be terminated, which will affect many students nationwide.
Mt. SAC will be one of the hundreds of colleges whose students will be negatively affected by the elimination of the DACA program. The program is crucial to student success as it eliminates the fear that comes with being undocumented. The elimination of this fear allows students to focus on their education while also being able to afford college expenses through being able to work.
DACA has helped many students at Mt. SAC, enabling them to become leaders and respectable scholars. Upon graduation, they continue to share their success within their community.
There are many eligibility requirements to be considered for the program: the applicant’s arrival in the United States as a child, continual residence in the country since 2007, status as a student and/or an honorably discharged veteran.
The DACA program requires an extensive background check before the acceptance of an application, which ensures that those in good moral character are of those accepted. In addition to the background check, the applicant’s age and date of entry are also considered.
The program costs, without lawyer representation fees, $465 every two years. The work permit, which last two years, must be renewed when it expires, which costs another $465.
