Dr. Nolan earned her Masters and Doctoral degrees in the field of clinical psychology, with a specialty in cognitive and personality assessment. She has worked clinically with people with severe mental illnesses, children with a trauma background who were also navigating the foster care system and/or lived in unstable living environments, adult indivduals facing stage of life challenges, and college aged students who need support to successfully manage the specific demands of this stage of life. Beginning in undergraduate and continuing on into graduate school, she worked as a teaching assistant to professors and as a resource for other students who need additional support with course material. This experience led her to realize her passion for teaching. In 2013 Dr. Nolan began teaching at Mt. SAC and immediately fell in love with both the profession and the College. She continues to work to refine her teaching techniques to meet student needs and to help students be their most successful selves. While she is not currently seeing clients she continues to consult with other clinicians in the profession about their clients as part of their professional development. Dr. Nolan works to make the subject of psychology relatable and relevant to students, and she has a special affinity for teaching clinical ("abnormal") psychology from a perspective of compassion and empathy for families, friends, and the individual who is experiencing symptoms. Dr. Nolan has also become involved in several College committees with the goals of making the College experience inclusive and accessible to all students, acknowledgement of exceptional student performance, as well as a committee that promotes employee wellness in the Mt. SAC community.
