Equity Center Holds Grand Opening

Board of Trustees cuts ribbon

March 05, 2019 - 03:28 PM

Students, staff, faculty and the Board of Trustees celebrated the grand opening of the Equity Center on Wednesday. The building provides 7,680 square feet of meeting space, offices and a computer lab to help students of diverse backgrounds thrive.

The much-need facility is one of the last Measure RR-funded projects and allows for a permanent home for the Arise, Aspire, Dream and Reach programs to all be under one roof. For many years, the programs operated out of modular buildings or crammed into other offices.

“In opening the Equity Center, we are reaffirming our commitment to breaking down barriers to opportunity by championing support services for our students,” Mt SAC President Bill Scroggins said. “Some of our students face incredible barriers. This center brings together resources and enhanced services to help students from historically under-represented backgrounds so they can pursue their academic goals, launch careers and become active members of our community.”
