This course develops comprehensive keyboard and collaborative piano skills through four main areas: accompaniment, sight-reading, technical facility, and solo performance. Students will master two-hand accompaniments for vocal and instrumental repertoire, sight-read four-part chorales and open scores, perform scales and arpeggios in specified major/minor keys, and prepare intermediate- to advanced-level solo repertoire. The course culminates in a formal accompaniment recital where students demonstrate their collaborative musicianship. Emphasis is placed on practical applications of keyboard skills including harmonization using primary and secondary chords, transposition, ensemble playing, and appropriate accompaniment styles such as Alberti bass and waltz patterns.
