ENGR 1D  Engineering Design, Environment and Society

3 Units (Degree Applicable, CSU, UC)
Lecture: 36   Lab: 54

Engineering Design, Society and Environment is an integrated lecture-lab, project-based and problem-based semester-long course with an external community-based partnership. In this course we explore the role of the engineer and engineering design within our society, the use of natural resources, and the built environment. We also incorporate technical drawings, CAD modelling, mechanical systems, machine tools, fabrication, applied physics, sustainability, environmental justice, social inequity, research and design methodology, teamwork, communication, and engineering ethics. We evaluate our learning through documentation of laboratory activities, development of authentic project solutions with industry standard tools, and critical self-reflection.
