Our brief histor
In 2011, the Arise Program was established with our first Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institutions (AANAPISI) federal grant award. In 2016 we received a second 5-year AANAPISI grant, which was extended for a year due to the impact of COVID-19. After a decade of program success, the college institutionalized all current positions. In 2023, we were among 50 colleges who were awarded the inaugural California Community Colleges Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander Student Achievement Program (CCC AANHPI SAP) grant funds, which supports our on-going work and ability to curate more programming for our AANHPI students. Thus, we are proud to be recognized as an AANAPISI and CCC AANHPI SAP campus!

A message
Our team is grateful for our Mt. SAC Community who collaborated in the programming we engaged in this year. From our Library to Studio 13, to our EC family, Student Services and Instruction, and to our university partners, Cal Poly Pomona and UC Riverside! The work we
do uplifts our students!
A year of ufirsts"
Since the Arise Program was established in 2011 (AANAPISI grant & AANHPI SAP), we have sought opportunities to center a sense of belonging, support students' educational journeys, and curate AANHPI culturally-
centered programming. This 1

academic year was no different. i'.
However, there were more "firsts": :;
Our first APAHM 2024 with four major events. Our initial exploration of using Navigate for campaigns and nudges. And our first university transfer experiences at CPP (Summer 2023) and UCR (Feb 2024).
APAHM 2024
Asian Pacific American Heritage Month (APAHM), centers the celebration of AANHPls contributions, heritage, and lived experiences, including contemporary socio-historical-political issues in the US. It also shares recognition with Mental Health Awareness Month. Four events included a focus on "Cultivating Tools for Wellness", an inaugural storytelling contest, and two screenings as part of a new EC Series, "Streaming Critical Consciousness" featuring Blue Bayou and Liquor Store Dreams. All events drew a large audience. SAC Media featured APAHM event. Check this one out: https://sac.media/2024/05/22/video-apahm-storytelling-i-am-aanhpi/.

An APAHE First: Peer Mentors' Present a Professional Conference Session
At APAHE 2024 (April 3-5), Arise Student Peer Mentors co-lead a session, "Rebuilding Spaces Through Hope, Healing, & Love: An Inside Glimpse on How Mt. SAC Students Strengthened Their API Community Post-Pandemic" with the support of TnT Duo, Tutasi and Teresa. The Arise Program staff were also part of four additional presentations. We also took students and staff to see "Larry ltliong the Musical", a Broadway-type show depicting the life journey of "Manong Larry", a farm worker turned Filipino Activist, who fought alongside Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta revealing lessons about leadership, advocacy, and unity during the farmworker's movement in the 1960s.
