What is a Pitch?

Do you have an awesome business idea? A business pitch is a presentation that entrepreneurs use to deliver their business ideas to potential investors. It often includes a deck of slides that serve as a presentation aid and background, and a verbal discussion that begins as a planned talk and ends with questions and answers.

The Tri-College Student Pitch Competition

The Tri-College Student Pitch Competition is open to all students currently enrolled at Mt. SAC, Cerritos College, and Norco College. It provides students with the opportunity to practice presenting a business idea in front of established entrepreneurs, business experts, professionals, and community leaders.

Prizes

All finalists will receive a participation certificate. The first place winner receives a cash prize of $1000, second place receives $500, and third place receives $250. If the winners are members of a team, the prize will be split evenly among all team members.

Pitch Application Guidelines

    • 1Upload video & Complete Google Form

      Upload a 1-2 minute video to YouTube and complete the Google Form with all needed information by April 18, 2021. Your video should describe the business need or the opportunity for your product or service, explain how your business idea/product will serve the market, briefly outline your marketing/promotion plan, and include a quick summary of your financial plan.

    • 2Selection & Notification of Finalists

      Up to ten (10) of the best student ideas will be selected for the final pitch competition. We will notify the individuals/teams after April 22, 2021. If selected as one of the finalists, you must verify that you are currently enrolled in one of the three colleges.

    • 3Finalists Presentations

      The live Zoom pitch competition will be held on Thursday, April 29, 2021, starting at 1 p.m. Each individual or team will have up to five minutes to present their pitch before answering a series of questions posed by the judging panel. The panel will include established entrepreneurs, business experts, professionals, and community leaders. For the presentation, students should explore the following areas:

      • Succinctly describe their product or service;
      • Identify the target market and sales channels;
      • Illustrate the competitive advantages comparing to other products and services in the marketplace.

The Zoom pitch competition will be recorded. All contestants and attendees will need to sign a terms and conditions agreement. Any information related to the business ideas should be kept confidential until a project is publicly and fully released.
