Rood & Riddle began as an ambulatory practice in Lexington, Kentucky in 1982 and established
a full-service equine hospital in 1986. Today the practice is known and respected

- Surgical Assistant - 6 Month Internship
Surgical Assistant (February-July)
Rood & Riddle is offering a 6 month Veterinary Assistant Undergraduate Intern Program.
Surgery assistants retrieve patients from their stalls, help induce anesthesia, position
patients on surgical beds, aseptically prepare surgical sites, set up operating rooms
and sterilize instruments. Surgery assistants will have a set start time for each
day but the end time can vary based on the schedules of the surgeons and emergencies.
Surgery assistants will be exposed to a variety of surgical cases throughout this
internship. Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital is a full-service surgical facility. Surgery
assistants will see soft tissue, orthopedic, upper airway, gastrointestinal, neonatal,
and emergency cases.
How to Apply
Applications will be accepted from June to December for undergraduate internships
commencing the following January. Applicants must have previous experience with horse handling. Assistants may assist
and/or observe in other areas of the hospital (radiology, podiatry, nursing, surgery,
reproduction and diagnostic imaging) as needed.
