ENGL 68 Course Image
Using an integrated approach, continues to develop effective writing based on reading.   Reviews paragraph structure, emphasizes development of the academic essay, and introduces principles of documentation.  Continues to develop critical thinking through reading of and writing about increasingly complex texts.  Students who repeat this course will improve skills through further instruction and practice.

Prerequisite: ENGL 67 or AMLA 43W or satisfactory score on the English Placement Test

Course Measurable Objectives:

  1. Recognize various rhetorical approaches in texts.
  2. Comprehend written English at the 10th-11th grade level.
  3. Apply basic elements for analysis to texts used for writing assignments.
  4. Combine related ideas into an outline.
  5. Compose theses and topic sentences.
  6. Use clear examples to create expanded, relevant development of points.
  7. Write multiple, coherent paragraphs centered on a clear, unifying idea.
  8. Address a written prompt demonstrating some complexity in logical reasoning.
  9. Recognize multiple meanings in texts.
  10. Coordinate and subordinate ideas effectively.
  11. Summarize short texts.
  12. Begin integrating sources into written work.
  13. Edit grammar, mechanics, and spelling in written work.
