Course Measurable Objectives:

  1. Design sound network IDS/IPS.
  2. Write Snort rules and craft sample packets.
  3. Explain fundamental concepts of Network Protocol Analysis.
  4. Capture and analyze network packets.
  5. Evaluate for use appropriate protocol analyzers and IDS/IPS as security tools to detect network attacks and troubleshoot network problems.

Course Level Student Learning Outcomes:


Students completing CISS 23 - Network Analysis, Intrusion Detection / Prevention Systems will be able to:
  1. explain the fundamental concepts of Network Protocol Analysis and demonstrate the skill to capture and analyze network packets.
  2. use various protocol analyzers and Network Intrusion Detection Systems as security tools to detect network attacks and troubleshoot network problems.
