The Assessment of Written English, or AWE, is the English placement test that asks you to give an example of your best writing. The purpose of the test is to place you in the English class where you will be most successful.
Visit the Assessment Center for more information about the test, including sample prompts, essays, and the grading rubric.
Placing low on the test means you will have to take more English courses and spend more money and time completing these courses before you meet prerequisite requirements and ultimately transfer or graduate.
The Tips for AWE Preparation workshop provides students with an overview of the English placement test, reviews what the readers are looking for when they place students in a particular course, and offers students helpful resources they can utilize before taking the AWE.
