Internships

Each year we find that an increasing number of companies are choosing to hire permanent employees who have completed an internship with them. An internship is a temporary work assignment with a company or organization in which the intern is either paid or volunteers their time. It’s an opportunity for the student to gain hands on training and experience, which will come in handy when applying for a permanent job. Internships look good on a resume for a person who might otherwise have no relevant experience to show. Employers may use internships to see how an individual responds in a work environment before offering them permanent employment. Since the assignment is temporary, the employer has no obligation to hire the intern once an internship is over, and is therefore more apt to bring a person on as an intern first, to see how well they do.
The Career Placement Office maintains a listing of internship opportunities that are sent to us by those offering them, and those which are created through the efforts of our job developers. To view these assignments, come to the Career Placement Office and let the front counter staff know that you are interested in internships. You may also want to talk to Darma Paden for specific internships related to Mt. SAC career programs that she has helped to develop.
Students may be able to earn college credit for some internships. You may check with the Career Placement Office or Mt. SAC’s class schedule to find out if a specific internship qualifies.
