Assessment
Most new students attending Mt.
SAC are required to participate in an assessment to determine basic skills. The
placement tests used for assessment should be taken after the student applies,
but before orientation and registration.
Placement tests are required for appropriate
course placement. Students take placement exams for math, English and reading
courses. Advanced level math placement exams should be taken when applicable
to the student’s academic background and intended program of study.
To
Make a Placement Test Appointment:
- Determine the test required for
the courses in which you plan to enroll
- Make an appointment by calling
the Assessment Center at 909-274-4265, or visit the Assessment Center
in the Student Services Center (9B)
- Arrive at the designated testing
room 10-15 minutes early on the day of the test
Note: A photo I.D. is required
to take all tests and to receive all test results.
Exemptions from Assessment
Students are exempt from assessment if they:
- Enroll
in non-credit or community services classes only
- Select and enroll
in a general interest class which does not have prerequisites
- Verify
English or math eligibility based on course work at Mt. SAC or other regionally
accredited institutions
- Verify
other test scores accepted by Mt. SAC
- Possess an Associate or higher degree
from an accredited institution
Counseling
Students should plan to meet with a
counselor prior to their first semester at Mt. SAC in order to create an Educational
Plan. The Educational Plan lists the courses needed to complete a specific major,
as well as identifying graduation and/or transfer requirements in general education.
In addition, counselors are available to help you if you:
- Are undecided
about your major or career goal
- Want help planning your educational and/or
career goal
- Need assistance in choosing a university or college for transfer
- Have
personal problems that impact your college success
