Accommodating Students with Disabilities in the Classroom

This is an 8-week web-based, ONLINE COURSE designed for those who provide direct instruction to students. In this course, faculty participants will learn strategies for fully including students with disabilities in academic activities. Participants will also discuss studies and review answers to questions faculty members frequently ask about accommodating students with disabilities in their classes. On-campus and off-campus resources will be explored. Faculty participants will be asked to select one of their existing courses to review in light of the issues presented during this course. For the selected course, faculty will examine access for students with disabilities, explore accommodation strategies and consider modifications that would make it more accessible to students with a wide variety of disabilities. Course activities include online readings, videos, online discussions, a face to face interview, and individual projects. Faculty may elect to earn 32 hours of Salary Advancement Credit.

In addition, participants must attend ONE of three mandatory meetings. Choose from: Friday, Jan. 7, 10a - 12p; Monday, Jan. 10, 3 - 5 pm, or Tuesday, Jan. 11, 9 - 11 am, located in POD/LTC-148. Email Laura Martinez, lmartinez@mtsac.edu with your preferred date.
