The Mt. SAC Child Development Center provides quality
full and part-day care and education services for the children of Mt. SAC students
and staff, and surrounding community, as space permits.
Infant/Toddler Program
The infant/toddler program serves children from birth
to 3 years of age and consists of the following components:
Small Group Size
Small groups support high quality, quality interaction between
caregiver and child. In small groups, children are more cooperative, more likely
to engage in spontaneous verbalization, and more responsive to their peers. The
infant/toddler program is staffed as follows:
- Infants - 1 caregiver: 3 children
- Young Toddlers - 1 caregiver:
4 children
- Older Toddlers - 1 caregiver: 5 children
Primary Caregivers
Upon enrollment in the program, infants and toddlers are
assigned to a primary caregiver who is responsible for the daily care of a small
group of children. When infants and toddlers develop secure attachments, they
are more likely to explore their environment. It is through this primary caregiving
process that children develop a sense of trust, security, and comfort.
Continuity of Care
Infants and toddlers remain with the same caregiver from
birth through 3 years old. This allows children, caregivers, and families to
develop and maintain trusting relationships over time.
Preschool Program
The preschool program provides an adult-child ratio of one
adult for every eight children in an environment that fosters creativity, discovery,
and self-expression. Teachers model respectful social behavior and provide complex
activities and materials for children to explore at their level of abilities
and learning styles. The teaching staff maintains ongoing anecdotal records and
assessments of children’s progress which are regularly shared with parents.
Enrollment Eligibility
Enrollment eligibility is established each semester.
Student parents enrolled in six or more units receive priority. College staff
and faculty as well as the community may enroll their children as space permits.
Fees and Funding
Fees are charged by the hour and are dependent upon the age
of the child. Several types of financial assistance are available to student
parents who qualify and will be determined upon application.
Children not qualified or accepted for any Center funded program may be enrolled
in the Fee-based program. (If you qualify you may be eligible for funding from
off-campus sources. The office can provide you with a list of resources and phone
numbers).
Fees: All fees must be paid in cash (Fees subject to change)
A non-refundable $35.00 per child Registration and Insurance Fee is charged
for each semester.
Rates per contract hour:
- Infant / Younger Toddler Classrooms: $6.50 per hour
- Older Toddler Classroom:
$6.00 per hour
- 3 & 4 Year Old Classrooms: $5.50 per hour
Food Program
A federally funded food program provides breakfast, lunch, afternoon
snack, and dinner, meeting the nutritional needs of the children. Meals are free
of charge to all enrolled children.
Enrollment
Formal application must be made in person at the Child Development
Center, Bldg. 9E, located behind the SAC Book RAC (college bookstore). Final
acceptance into the program will be determined when all of the following have
been completed:
- All paperwork completed and signed by the parent
- The Physician’s
report signed (stamped signature not accepted) and dated by the child’s
physician and the Immunization Record is currently up-to-date
- The Registration
and Insurance fee, PLUS 4 weeks advance tuition paid IN CASH (or money order)
for children enrolled in the Fee program.
Center Hours
The Mt. SAC Child Development Center is open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:00
p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and from 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Fridays. All
College holidays and semester breaks are observed.
Parent Participation and Education
The Center offers parent participation and
education opportunities throughout the year. Parents are encouraged to engage
in these activities as they strengthen and enhance the parent-teacher-child partnership,
which promotes school readiness and success.
Laboratory School
The Child Development
Center is a laboratory site for Mt. SAC students enrolled in a variety of disciplines,
including Child Development and Nursing. Students observe and participate in
the children’s classrooms
to fulfill course requirements and gain practical experience in working with
young children.
