AMLA 43WAmerican Language Advanced Writing^ By the end of the semester, students will produce a piece of writing that has appropriate sentence variety. ^ By the end of the semester, students will produce a piece of writing that shows appropriate development of ideas. ^ Students will produce a body of writing that meets the course standard for focus. ^ Students will produce a body of writing that meets the standard for language use. ^ Upon completion of AMLA 43 students will be able to edit for incorrect verb tense. ^ Upon completion of AMLA 43 students will be able to identify correct SV agreement.
AMLA 31RAmerican Language Basic Reading^ Students will comprehend the central meaning and/or details of a text of level appropriate length and difficulty ^ Students will demonstrate acquisition of new vocabulary in a course-embedded tests of either a combination of passive (no more than 50% of the words) and active masteries or active mastery alone. ^ Students will demonstrate comprehension of level-appropriate reading selection. ^ Students will demonstrate comprehension of level-appropriate vocabulary
AMLA 41WAmerican Language Basic Writing^ By the end of the semester, students will produce a piece of writing that demonstrates the ability to develop ideas. ^ By the end of the semester, students will produce a piece of writing that has appropriate sentence variety. ^ Students will produce a body of writing that meets the course standard for focus. ^ Students will produce a body of writing that meets the course standard for language use. ^ Using a Langford-style pre/post survey, 100% of AMLA 41 students will self-assess their level of understanding of AMLA 41 major grammar points. At the end of the semester, 70% of the students responding will rate their understanding as "I can use it correctly" or better on 70% of the language objectives.
AMLA 23SAmerican Language Formal Speaking^ Students should rate themselves higher on impromptu speech eye contact on the post assessment than on the pre assessment. ^ Students will demonstrate greater confidence in academic public speaking ^ students will organize and deliver a formal speech ^ Students will rate their organization of impromptu speeches higher on the post test than on the pre test ^ students will self-assess their pronunciation strengths and weaknesses ^ Students will successfully take notes on the main ideas of an academic lecture
AMLA 32RAmerican Language Intermediate Reading^ Students will demonstrate acquisition of new vocabulary in a course-embedded tests of either a combination of passive (no more than 50% of the words) and active masteries or active mastery alone. ^ Demonstrate comprehension of level-appropriate vocabulary. ^ Students will comprehend the central meaning and/or details of a text of level appropriate length and difficulty ^ Students will demonstrate active and passive mastery of 60 newly acquired vocabulary to be generally taken from the General Service List and the Academic word list. ^ Students will demonstrate comprehension of level-appropriate reading selection. ^ Students will write a paraphrase of main ideas from a paragraph-length text

AMLA 24Idiomatic English^ AmLa 24S Students will demonstrate greater confidence when using idioms in spoken English. ^ On exiting the course, students will be able to define literal vs. figurative language ^ Students will demonstrate comprehension of level-appropriate idioms. ^ Students will demonstrate comprehension of level-appropriate proverbs. ^ Students will recognize correct usage of thirty-five common English idioms. ^ Students will score better on a 35 question test which measures the ability to recognize correct usage of common English idioms.
